We are blessed with an abundance of excellent local pubs, hotels and award winning restaurants close to Lobhill Farmhouse bed & breakfast and self catering accommodation.
Here are a few local suggestions.
The Dartmoor Inn, Lydford
Lydford, Tavistock, Devon EX20 4AY | 01822 820221
Regarded by many as a special place. The cooking is fantastic, the bar is warm, the style, which owes a bit to Sweden and a bit to New England, will make you feel at home. The restaurant is made up of a series of cosy, stylish dining rooms, each with its own identity. Although there are linen cloths and sparkling glassware on every table the feeling is relaxed.
The award-winning cooking is based on seasonal ingredients and much work has gone into forging links with local farmers and food artisans to ensure the best local produce. The bar has a great gin selection, wines and local ales. You’ll find a menu ranging from fabulously light fish and chips with green mayonnaise to a fillet of duck, vanilla apple purée, prunes and toasted almonds or a glorious Dexter rump steak.
The Cornish Arms, Tavistock
15 West Street, Tavistock, PL19 8AN | 01822 612145
The Cornish Arms is set in the heart of Tavistock at the foothills of Dartmoor in the rolling countryside of Devon.
Found in the heart of this Stannary town, The Cornish Arms is so called as it was the last Coaching Inn before Cornwall. Run by proprietors husband and wife team John and Emma Hooker the Cornish Arms is a great British pub serving good honest food and drink in warm welcoming surroundings.
Clovelly Inn
Bratton Clovelly, Okehampton, Devon EX20 4JZ | 01837 871447
Bratton Clovelly is a rural village on the North Western edge of Dartmoor National Park. It is notable for its Norman period church, St Mary the Virgin, which contains a series of very rare 17th Century wall paintings.
The Clovelly Inn serves a wide selection of hot and cold food, seven days a week. All their meat comes fresh from a local butcher in Tavistock. The sweets are either home made or sourced from a local patisserie.
They take beer seriously at the Clovelly Inn and go out of their way to source a diverse range of fine brews, many from the the local area, store and serve them with painstaking care. Their efforts have been recognised by the award of the Cask Marque, a national, independent accreditation of excellence in the service of cask ale.
Lewtrenchard Manor
Lewdown, Near Okehampton, EX20 4PN | 01566 783 222
Diners are treated to a special dining experience created by Head Chef, Tom Browning. The quality of the cuisine attracts many non-resident diners to the restaurant and the atmosphere is cheerful and relaxed, with a lively buzz of conversation. This is partly due to the friendliness of the chef and staff, but the excellence and diversity of the cellar, which features modestly priced bottles from every wine producing region in the world, obviously helps.
Bearslake Inn
Lake Sourton, Nr Okehampton, Devon, EX20 4HQ | 01837 861334
The restaurant specialises in local produce. The South West of England is blessed with wonderful supplies of fresh meat, fish and vegetables direct from the farmer, fisherman or grower as well as a host of small artisan producers of cheese, ice cream, chocolates and smoked products to name but a few. In the snug bar, they primarily stock ales from the Otter Brewery in Honiton and Teignworthy Brewery Newton Abbot.
