Perfect spot to break up the drive to/from Cornwall. The location was brilliant for exploring Dartmoor and super close to Lydford Gorge.

Tavistock is an old stannary town and was once the world’s major tin producing area. There is a charming Devon country atmosphere in the town with its pannier market and many old fashioned specialist shops. Here we find The Wharf (music events and cinema) and world famous Crebers Grocery Store – well worth a visit.
Major annual events for locals and visitors alike include: the Goose Fair in October, the Dickensian evening in December and the Tavistock Music Festival in May.
It has an extremely famous son, Sir Francis Drake who became the Mayor of Plymouth in 1581. St Eustachius’ parish church also boasts a window designed by William Morris.
For the more energetic there are lovely walks along the river, a town trail and a route along the viaduct. Dartmoor is on the doorstep of Tavistock and is a gateway to stunning Tors that are relatively easy to access. Cox Tor is located at Pork Hill where there is a large car park and an ice cream van. If you travel further along the moor road you will find numerous Tors and wide open spaces for miles.
