The nearest cities are Plymouth (28 miles) and Exeter (32 miles). They offer all the facilities you would expect from major cities including shopping, restaurants, cinemas, theatres and historic attractions.
Plymouth
Plymouth offers The National Marine Aquarium, the first aquarium in the UK to be a leading visitor attraction as well as a centre of excellence in education and research. Situated on the Barbican waterfront it offers magnificent views across The Sound and provides an action packed half day of observation and interaction to all things that live in the sea. The Barbican is Plymouth’s delightful old port, full of narrow cobbled streets, Elizabethan warehouses , specialist shops, art galleries, cafes, restaurants and Black Friars Distillery, the working home of Plymouth Gin since 1793.
Exeter
Exeter is a city brimming with history and heritage, with many visitor attractions to keep you entertained for hours on end. From the magnificent Cathedral to the Historic Quayside, there’s so much to see and do in this fascinating city.
Exeter’s 2,000 year history is reflected in its heritage attractions, such as the Gothic St Peter’s Cathedral and the Roman City Wall. Explore beneath the city’s streets at Exeter’s Underground Passages, medieval passages originally built to bring fresh water into the city in medieval times. Parliament Street in Exeter is the narrowest street in the world! It measures just 25 inches at its narrowest point and 45 inches at its widest, and has a length of about 50 metres.
Other historic buildings include the Exeter Guildhall and Tuckers Hall, or head down to Exeter’s Historic Quayside, a hub of leisure and activity, where you can explore the River Exe and Exeter ship canal by boat, bicycle or on foot, and discover the historic Exe Island. Maybe visit the Quay House Visitor Centre to discover Exeter’s maritime history.
