Launceston Cornwall
Launceston, once the capital of Cornwall and is now considered the gateway to the County.
Why not enjoy a traditional Cornish cream tea during your visit; did you know that in Cornwall the jam is placed on the scone first followed by cream, whereas if you’re in Devon the tradition is for cream first and then the jam?
Launceston is known for its dominating 11th century castle and the magnificent carved exterior of St Mary Magdalene Church. In the narrow streets are fine examples of early architecture while fascinating facts about the town’s history are included in the town trail guide’s.
The town centre offers many shops and facilities with a pedestrianised square and arcade. The streets are winding and narrow in places and this adds to the town’s character. I recommend the cafe and coffee bar No.8 and opposite a lovely Deli! Philip Warren butchers is county renowned and offer a stunning selection of traditional meats, pasties and hot snacks – they are located at Pennygillam Industrial Estate.
