Birthday weekend

We stayed for 2 nights for my wife’s birthday the accommodation was amazing lovely and quiet we had a walk through the woods which was beautiful, the breakfast was great jane was very attentive & nothing was too much for her, the location was very central for everywhere, we followed Jane’s recommendations for places to eat & her choices were great . We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lobhill Farmhouse. We were welcomed very friendly and enjoyed the family atmosphere. The rooms were pleasant. Jane had even cleaned them extra carefully to prevent our allergies. We like to remember the beautifully prepared breakfasts with homemade bread in the cosy kitchen, the great background music (Beatles, etc.) and the interesting conversations with Jane.

Rejuvenated and relaxed by the tranquillity of this spectacular scenic location.

The lodge and surroundings evoke a feeling of calm with choices of paths through the extensive surrounding woodland which entice you to hug a tree or two. An ideal location to switch off and enjoy all that nature has to offer.

Beautiful house and grounds

Beautiful farmhouse , far exceeded our expectations… warm welcome from Jane as soon as we arrived which carried through until we left. We had twin room which was perfect , numerous teas , coffee and drinking chocolate and some fudge with kettle in room milk and water Avalon fridge in entrance hall. All bedding and towels were sparkling white. It was topped of by a wonderful choice for breakfast cooked fresh to order by Jane. Would certainly recommend and hope to re visit in the future. We did a tour of Alder vineyard which was the purpose of the weekend. Little walk through the woods absolutely perfect. Thank you Jane

Wir hatten eine wunderbare Zeit im Lobhill Farmhouse. Jane ist eine sehr zuvorkommende Gastgeberin und gab uns viele Tipps für schöne Touren und Tagesausflüge. Ihre Restaurantvorschläge waren immer sehr gut und wir dort immer einen schönen Abend bei wirklich gutem Essen.
Das Frühstück bei Jane war immer toll und wir fühlten uns in ihrer Wohnküche wie zuhause. Ihr Garten ist eine echt Wohlfühloase und wir freuen uns auf ein Wiedersehen!

The place itself was lovely, well laid out and with everything you needed to cook, relax and the beds were really comfy, with black out shutters.

Idyllic

We spent 6 nights at Lew Valley Lodge. The perfect retreat. Beautiful accommodation, every comfort, nice little touches and stunning views from every terrace. Jane is the perfect host for whom nothing is too much trouble. She brought us a lovely cream tea and her home made marmalade is a treat.
Lovely grounds to walk around. Very secluded
We recommend a visit to Alder Vineyard, all of a minute’s drive away or a slightly steep ten minute walk.
Wish we could live here.

Gorgeous relaxing stay

Yet another lovely time at Lobhill Farmhouse. We stayed in the beautiful Lew Valley Lodge again. This has everything you need. Beds are super comfy and the showers are lovely. The view though from the kitchen and living area is amazing and you instantly relax as soon as you see this. Jane is the best host, makes a lovely breakfast and the homemade fudge to greet you after a long journey is the icing on the cake. Cannot recommend highly enough. Thanks for another great stay x

Superb….as always!

Just returned from another fabulous relaxing 3 night stay at Lobhill Farmhouse with family. My parents had a B&B room and I stayed in The Stable (self-catering). What a little gem The Stable is – it’s very cosy, luxury shower room, comfy bed, little kitchen and a decking area outside on which I enjoyed my morning cuppa! It has all you need for a very comfortable stay – when can I move in?!! My parents room was immaculate and enjoyed views over the forest backdrop to the beautiful gardens. Delicious breakfast to set you up for the day. The White Hart in nearby Bridestowe serves great pub food. Jane is a fantastic host – thank you so much for yet another fabulous stay. We cannot wait to return!

Jane war sehr lieb und hat uns direkt begrüßt und alles gezeigt. Alles war detailliert und genau geschrieben.Die Anlage war wundervoll, liebevoll und wirklich unfassbar sauber eingerichtet. Die Küche war mit ALLEM ausgestattet und es gab in jedem Zimmer ein eigenes Bad mit Dusche. Die Lage ist Atemberaubend , die Terrasse ist riesig und die Sitzmöglichkeiten sind perfekt.Alles ist sehr Erreichbar und es gibt so viel zu sehen in der Gegend. Wie sind sehr zufrieden und würden es jeder Zeit wieder tun!

We loved our stay with Jane. We stayed in the Yellow standard double room which is just large enough for two people, with two chairs as well as the bed, cupboard and chest of drawers. There are steps down into the roomy shower room (which may not suit everyone but were fine for us).

There was a good choice of food for breakfast, to be chosen the night before, and it was very tasty. The grounds are lovely too, for an evening stroll, with wonderful views over open countryside and the neighbouring vineyard.

Nearby activities

Too many to list as it’s on the edge of Dartmoor, but there’s Alders Vineyard a few hundred metres away. They do tours and have a great café/restaurant. We also visited Lydford Gorge which is just a few miles away – it was lovely and cool on a very hot day!

We stayed in the self catering annex and paid for breakfast every day. The accommodation was ideal for us as we have a dog and were able to walk fron right outside the place. Lovely garden with wood land out the back. It was fairly accessible but there was a step up into the property, the bathroom facilities were good with a walk in shower. Shower equipment was available if needed.
The breakfast was delicious with locally produced food and home made bread every day.

Second time around@

This was a return visit to Lew Valley Lodge and although it was a bit rainy, nothing could dampen the joy of this amazing place! Jane has thought of everthing to make guests feel welcome and this year included an evening symphony. When its very windy the railings around the lodge ‘sing’. Its really lovely..coupled with the Tawny Owlets calling from the wood. Magical! Places not to miss….White Hart Inn, Bridestowe for amazing food. Postbridge ..sausage rolls and the best pasties. Warren House Inn ..great views and food. Dartmeet for photography and birds, particularly Yellowhammers. Tavistock..lovely walk by the canal and Cox Tor car park for the best Ice Cream. Can’t wait to come back!!

Ein sehr schöner Aufenthalt!

Es war Alles sehr gut und es hat uns sehr gefallen.
Die kleine Küchenzeile mit Cafemaschine und Mikrowelle in unserem Zimmer war für uns sehr komfortabel, so konnten wir auch mal was Kleines zu Essen warm machen oder uns richtigen Cafe kochen! 🙂
Die Umgebung ist sehr ruhig und mit einem Fasanenpaar als “Haustiere” die immer wieder auf dem Grundstück zu sehen waren ein sehr naturnahes Erlebnis. 🙂

The area is so calm perfect for a holiday and there is a lot of nature around to have a causal stroll and is within an hour of driving to famous Cornwall beaches. We had a great time at Lobhill Farmhouse!
It was our first accomodation during our holiday in South England and it was the best start we could‘ve imagined! We had a wonderful room with direct access to the garden which was great for our little son!

We enjoyed the beautiful location, the spacious room and the great hospitality of our host Jane.

We felt very comfortable in this B&B in the best of taste of pretty country chic. Breakfast was accompanied by soft music from Janes LP collection, which pretty much impressed our 11 years old daughter. Jane was very attentive any shared little things with our daughter. She was very helpful with recommendations for trips in the area as well. Being interested in gardening, she even offered to share her Mexican daisies with us. This stay way a great start in our South Western England vacation.

What can I say that has not already been said 🙂

Probably one of the most enjoyable stays that my partner and I have had. We stayed for three nights and loved every minute. The accommodation and communal areas were so homely and well equipped that we did not want for anything. Jane was the delightful perfect host who was so attentive. Her eye for detail (the small things) and anticipation of what guests would want are a credit to her. So in short, would I visit again – yes in a heartbeat 🙂

Es waren hervorragende Tage bei Jane.

besonders gut hat uns die Unterkuft im seperaten Haus gefallen. Es war gemütlich eingerichtet, man konnte auf der Terasse sitzen. The property is stunning, with a wonderfully kept garden that invites you to linger and enjoy the atmosphere. A wonderful find – great friendly and professional service

The genuine warmth and friendliness of Jane and Maggie the gardener. The house is beautifully located at the head of the valley with spectacular views. The peaceful garden was a real bonus and somewhere to relax after our hard days cycle.

A beautiful B&B in central Devon, right next to Dartmoor National Park. It’s located between Okehampton and Launceston, on a country road in the middle of the countryside. Words cannot describe the beauty of the place and the kindness and warmth of its owner, Jane. We went with our 10-year-old daughter and stayed in the annex, one of the self-catering options offered. Communication with Jane was fantastic, and she offers a wealth of information about the area. On the adjoining property are her sister’s vineyards, which you can visit and book dinners or tastings… I hope to return.

A perfect stay at the Lobhill Farmhouse, so convenient for the Vineyard tour

Jane was a perfect host, as well as Maggie who showed us to our room and how to get to the vineyard. The 60’s theme of the Farmhouse was so enjoyable, especially listening to The Beatles over breakfast. Jane recommended the perfect pub in the village to have dinner, which was incredible.

A lovely and relaxing place to stay.

It’s such a lovely situation. Extra fees to stay for one night, and if course the additional £25 for our dog made it a 3 out of 5 for value for money, but I was willing to pay. A great spot if you are doing the wine tasting. Facilities were good, apart from a WiFi code which doesn’t work. But it didn’t take from a lovely stay. The owners grandchildren are noisy above the Annex which could be difficult for some but we had a great stay and would come again.

A Hidden Gem That Feels Like Home – Lobhill Farmhouse

Apologies for the late review—we’ve been travelling non-stop and have only just returned home. But we couldn’t miss the chance to share our wonderful experience at Lobhill Farmhouse.

From the moment we arrived, we were blown away. It’s hard to even call it a “farmhouse”—it felt like a palace, but with the warmth and comfort of home.

The place was spotlessly clean—truly the cleanest accommodation we’ve ever stayed in. And the views? Absolutely breathtaking. Every window looked out onto postcard-perfect countryside.

A heartfelt thank you to Jane, the incredible host. She may be the iron lady keeping everything running smoothly, but her attitude and heart are soft as rose petals. She welcomed us with such grace and kindness, making our stay truly special.

The breakfasts were fresh, healthy, and prepared right in front of us in the charming kitchen that transported us straight back to our childhood. My wife and I found ourselves admiring every little detail—Jane’s arrangements and the house itself were simply beautiful.

The people in Okehampton added to the warmth of the trip—so friendly and welcoming.

And don’t forget to visit Alder Vineyard, run by Jane’s family—it’s a beautiful spot and a real highlight of our stay. That experience alone deserves its own glowing review!

Thank you again, Jane, for such a memorable time. We’re already planning our next visit.

Jane was a lifesaver! We had a bad experience with our Airbnb and bailed after night one! Left without anywhere to stay, I found Lobhill Farmhouse on Google. I don’t know how I’d missed it! It’s beautiful, peaceful, clean and reasonably priced. We had the annex. It’s a studio room with a functional kitchen, nice bathroom and comfortable queen bed. The couch also pulls out to another bed. The door opens out to the gorgeous garden and 30 acre majestic wood! The main house is a regular B&B, then there are three self catering options. The annex, attached to the back of the house, then there are two separate buildings with the one bedroom one bathroom cottage and the two bedroom two bathroom unit. Jane is very responsive to any requests and is so charming. Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful 5-night stay at Lew Valley Lodge– it was truly the best! The location and view were absolutely outstanding. The lodge itself was finished to a very high standard and was spotlessly clean. It had everything we could possibly need, and the wood-burning fire added such a cosy, relaxing touch. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and little touches like the provided shampoo, body wash, and fresh towels were a lovely added bonus. We also had lunch at the Vineyard (Alder Vineyard), which was just perfect – delicious food accompanied by another stunning view. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay and can’t wait to return!

This is our third year of coming here. Year 1 we stayed in The White Room- lovely comfy room, gorgeous views from the bedroom window, excellent breakfast. Year 2 in The Cottage, self catering. Quiet, relaxing with its own patio plus all the other sitting areas in the garden . This year in The Lodge, a 2 bedroom, 2 bath sumptuous retreat. Frühstück konnte aus mehreren Optionen täglich neu ausgewählt werden und war sehr lecker.
Die Zimmer sind sauber und gepflegt, lediglich ein bisschen hellhörig aufgrund des Alters.
Parken konnten wir direkt vor Ort.
Ihr Garten lädt zum Verweilen und Entspannen ein und ermöglicht einen direkten Zugang zu einem Wald mit Weg zum benachbarten Weingut.
Wir würden jederzeit wieder dort einchecken.

Brief but enjoyable stop in a nice rural spot

Jane was a most welcoming host, and attentive to our needs without being intrusive. The breakfast was well cooked and the eating area comfortable and spacious, Lobhill Farmhouse is served by a good road, without that being so close or busy that it intruded. It was a quiet spot, with little evidence of farming activity on the site itself, so it was lovely to sit in the garden, looking out over the farmhouse and adjacent hillsides with a chorus of birdsong from the woods behind us. Being invited to walk in this beautiful woodland was an unexpected bonus. Our twin room was smart and clean, with seating for both occupants, and the décor showed evidence of recent upgrade. It also had a nice view over the nearby hills.

The beds were a bit softer than we prefer, though not sufficient to detract. The single shelf in the shower-room was a bit tight for laying out two people’s toiletries.

Lobhill Farmhouse B&B near Lewdown sits just a bit off the boundary of Dartmoor National Park, making it an excellent place to stay while exploring the north and western sides of the moor. In fact, we spent our days walking the moor and visiting the tors. Our room was one of three in the B&B with comfy bed, pillows and duvet. The large bath had a good shower, racks for towels and adequate soaps. Breakfast begins with yogurt and a wonderful granola made and sold professionally by the owner’s sister. Plenty of juice, coffee and tea, croissants, and so forth to accompany the full English breakfast ordered by menu the night before. Jane, the owner told us lots of history of the house and the local area. Adler Vineyards, next door, is in the family. They have been in the area for many years.

We were blessed to stay 5 nights in this amazing B and B. The green room was so spacious and welcoming. The bathroom was huge and plenty of hot water. Jane’s extra touches to the room and house makes for a very enjoyable stay- we didn’t want to leave! A great location for easy access to so many sites in Cornwall and Dartmoor- we could easily have stayed longer! Jane’s breakfast was excellent.
If b & bs aren’t your thing then try her self catering cottages which also looked amazing. We hope to come back one day.

The property was well signed, easy to access and in a great location – car parking was in front of the house. Jane (our host) was most welcoming, very friendly, looked after our needs well and made our stay very comfortable. The property sits in a tranquil location with extensive gardens, easily accessed and woodland surrounding it. The room we had chosen was spacious, had plenty of storage for clothes etc, the bed was very comfortable and in the en-suite there was a great shower. In the room there were tea and coffee making facilities and at the bottom of the stairs, there was a daily container of fresh milk available each day in a fridge – (Oh, and I musn’t forget the little pot of fudge that was also left in the room – one of the little local treats you can but at Lob Hill Farmhouse) Breakfast was ordered the night before and freshly cooked in the morning along with toasted homemade bread. We knew that on one night we would not be back at the B&B until late but this was not a problem as we had a key to the front door. Overall, we had a great stay – Thankyou Jane. We would be happy to stay again and would recommend the property to others.

Wir waren (leider nur) 2 Nächte auf unserer England-Reise dort. Ein toller Ort um zur Ruhe zu kommen. Das Farmhaus und die Zimmer sind sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Unsere Zimmer waren grosszügig und es hat an nichts gemangelt. Jane war eine tolle Gastgeberin, hat uns sehr gute Wandertipps gegeben und das Frühstück war Super. We stayed at lobhill farm for 2 nights. From the moment we arrived we knew we’d found an absolute gem. The farmhouse is set in peaceful, well maintained grounds with beautiful views and ample parking. Jane was warm and welcoming and there is nothing she’d not thought about. The rooms were stunning, with tasteful decoration and were quite simply spotless. They take clean to a whole new level! There was fresh milk available for us to make a drink and chilled water. The choice of tea in the rooms was vast and the homemade fudge a real treat! Jane clearly has a hood eye for detail. The beds were very comfortable and you a guaranteed a great nights sleep.
There is a good selection of locally sourced food for a cooked breakfast (Jane is an excellent cook too) which you eat in the large farmhouse kitchen. This gives you a real sense of ‘home’ and relaxation. I could have stayed there all day.

The photos do not do the rooms justice. The rooms are beautiful and large with comfy beds. Just what you need for a good nights sleep. There is plenty of storage and everything is spotless. The en-suites are spacious with towels and all you need provided.
Thank you Jane. We will definitely be back.

This is a truly wonderful place to stay. We had booked for 5 nights but just didn’t want to leave so Jane managed to fit us in for another 3 nights. The accommodation is really lovely, spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated.

Lew Valley Lodge

A wonderful place to stay, a cosy, clean and perfect little hideaway in a beautiful area! Our stay was great! When we arrived at this beautiful house the fridge was filled with wine, juice, milk, water…. we got a fruit basket and cereals for breakfast, homemade marmelade and Jane brought us fresh croissants. We even had a washing machine, which was quite helpful! We loved everthing in this house, the interior, the style, the beds… everythink very clean and stylish! We spent 2 weeks in England, travelling around with our 2 kids…this accomodation was by far the best!

Lobhill Farm is a truly remarkable place to stay!

From the moment you turn off the road and onto the drive to the Farmhouse you know you are somewhere special. The B&B sits in beautifully maintained, peaceful grounds overlooking the valley. Jane made us feel at home and there is nothing she’s not thought about. From spotless, tastefully decorated, spacious rooms (ours even had a balcony) to the enormous range of teas available in the room with coffee and delicious handmade fudge, nothing was lacking. Breakfast was equally enjoyable. Thank you!

Such a beautiful place and a wonderful, relaxing experience.

Lobhill Farmhouse is a gem. We have now stayed in The White Room, The Annex and The Cottage. All are well positioned, comfortable and well-equipped. Jane is a star host. Nothing is too much trouble for her. She is so friendly, kind and helpful. You could not ask for better. Beautiful grounds to sit in, lovely walks through the woods and an award-winning vineyard at rhe bottom of the hill. What more could you ask for?

We had a fantastic 3 night stay here whilst exploring the Tamar valley. Beautiful location, fantastic gardens and our room was immaculate and had a really comfortable bed! Ankommen und Wohlfuhlen eine tolle Gastgeberin, die und jederzeit mit vielen Tipps und Empfehlungen versorgt hat.
Schöne saubere Zimmer im sehr typisch englischen Stil. Das Farmhaus befindet sich am Rand des Dartmoor und bietet sehr viele Möglichleiten für atemberaubende Ausflüge. z.B. castle Drogo oder Lydford Gorge.
Ein tolles Frühstück, das im großen Küchenfrühstücksraum des Hauses von der Gastgeberin frisch zubereitet wird. Sensationell!
Direkt von Farmhaus aus kann man schöne Wanderungen starten.
Die umliegenden Städtchen sind lohnend und das Dartmoor als Wandergebiet unglaublich spannend.
Die selbstgemachte Orangenmarmelade alleine ist schon eine Reise dorthin wert.

A spacious bedroom, nicely set out and an excellent breakfast choice in a light and tastefully set out room. The gardens are extensive and parking is easy. this is a good location for Dartmoor visits and to other places. There are several good pubs for an evening meal within 5 miles.

We have recently spent a glorious week at Lew Valley Lodge (formerly The Shed) with everything being 5* and then some!!
On arrival we were welcomed with a cream tea, fresh fruit and a bottle of wine from the nearby Alder Vineyard.
Jane, is a most welcoming host and nothing is too much trouble for her, ensuring every detail was perfect for our holiday.
The Lodge was immaculate with all appliances high end. The views were spectacular across the valley to Sourton Tor and Great Links Tor…..and no pylons!!
A visit to the neighbouring Alder Vineyard for lunch or a tour (or both!) is a must. The staff are so friendly and the food and wine are out of this world!
For wildlife lovers this place is the best. The first few minutes we watched a family of Great Spotted Woodpeckers, with Buzzards flying and soaring over the woods. Listen for the echoes of the sheep baaing across the valley in the early morning or evening Quite unusual!!
This has been the very best holiday and we just can’t wait to return.

I booked a stay at Jane’s B&B as my sister and I were walking the Two Castles Trail from Launceston to Okehampton, so this was a perfect place to stop for the night. I rarely stay in a B&B so this was such a fantastic surprise as to how lovely it was, from milk & water in a fridge downstairs, to wonderful fudge in our room. Shower was hot and with good water pressure. The breakfast the next morning was superb as was our meal at the Dartmoor Inn the previous evening, where Jane was so kind in dropping us off. If you’re in Lewdown or passing through, then this is a must try…you won’t be disappointed! Nothing was too much trouble for Jane and I will definitely stay there again.

What a lovely location and super accommodation. We stayed in the self catering annex with lovely views out over the garden to the nearby woods enjoying visits from the local wildlife. Jane was a superb host feeding us lovely breakfasts with many local and homemade ingredients and super vinyl music playing on her vintage Dansette record player! Lovely conversations with Jane and helpful travel information that helped us find our way to the wedding we were attending in Lewdown and at Wooladon Estate

Our annex was spacious and comfortable and decorated to a high standard with tasteful artwork and furnishings. Superb bathroom and good kitchen facilities.

We opted for a cooked breakfast and were delighted with the quality of the food. Many of the ingredients were locally sourced and some were home-made by Jane herself. Some produce was for sale and we treated ourselves to two bottles of wine that were produced on a local vineyard!

Jane had obviously thought about her guests needs and we couldn’t find any fault at all. We stayed in the Garden Annex and it was clean and very comfortable and the jar of fudge is a really nice thought too – it didn’t last long with us!!!!!
